About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse II at Taunton State Hospital is responsible for providing nursing care to patients in a designated area, administering treatments and medications, and performing related duties. This role involves working evening shifts and requires mandatory overtime, focusing on patient dignity, therapeutic relationships, and collaboration within an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct care to patients including activities of daily living, meal supervision, and escorts responsibility for group activities.
• Treats all patients with dignity and respect, advocating for their needs and preferences.
• Develops therapeutic relationships with patients, groups, and family members.
• Participates in the development and maintenance of a therapeutic milieu.
• Supervises mental health workers in their job responsibilities.
• Attends rounds and treatment team meetings as an interdisciplinary team member.
• Collaborates in collecting data for assessment, planning, and evaluation processes.
• Provides input into the nursing care plan and multidisciplinary treatment plan.
• Responds to medical and psychiatric emergencies, ensuring emergency equipment is checked.
• Provides health care education to patients and families according to care plans.
• Administers treatments and medications as ordered and documents patient care information.

Requirements

• At least one year of paraprofessional experience in nursing as a licensed practical nurse.
• Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
