About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at the Grand Island VA Medical Center is an intermittent role that supports various Specialty Clinics, including Cardiology, Dermatology, Orthopedics, Pulmonary, Rheumatology, Urology, and Wound Clinics. The LPN will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) and is responsible for providing essential nursing care to veterans, performing clinical tasks, and assisting in patient procedures. This role is crucial in ensuring the delivery of high-quality healthcare to veterans in an outpatient setting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform vitals and Specialty Intake Note for each Veteran, completing any clinical reminders that may be due.
  • Prepare and administer any medications/immunizations as per policy or as ordered by the provider.
  • Perform and assist provider with any procedures to include, shave biopsies, toenail removal, wound care, catheterizations, or other procedures.
  • Complete IMED consents when needed for any procedures that require consents.
  • Recognize and support suicide prevention initiatives.
  • Recognize and respond to patient emergencies, initiating life-saving measures while waiting for assistance to arrive.
  • Document data and assessments into the electronic medical record following established guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen to apply for this job.
  • Full, active, current, and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States, or District of Columbia.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least 2 years of outpatient clinic experience.
  • Experience in Cardiology, Dermatology, Wound Care, Urology, Orthopedics, Rheumatology, and/or ENT Clinics.
