About the position
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Whitney Young Health (WYH) plays a crucial role in assisting Medical Providers to deliver high-quality patient care and education while demonstrating excellent customer service. The LPN is responsible for maintaining an efficient patient flow within the Medical Units and ensuring a safe environment in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and NYSDOH. The position requires knowledge and skills to provide care to various age groups, from birth and above, and involves specific responsibilities related to operation, planning, data collection, documentation, and implementation of patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assist Medical Providers in delivering patient care and education.
- Maintain efficient patient flow within Medical Units.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific care and safety precautions.
- Room patients promptly and prepare exam rooms for medical visits.
- Assist with triage procedures under supervision.
- Communicate changes in patient condition to providers.
- Participate in performance improvement activities as requested.
- Accurately collect and document patient data and vital signs.
- Administer medications safely and follow established protocols.
Requirements
- Graduate of a registered approved program for Licensed Practical Nurses.
- Current NYS registration as an LPN.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- 1 to 2 years of patient care experience.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- 1 to 2 years of physician office experience.
- Basic computer keyboard knowledge.
- Flexibility to adjust to schedule changes.
- Training in laboratory/phlebotomy techniques.
- Knowledge of managed care requirements.
