The position involves performing a variety of office duties to assist the physician in office procedures, patient communication, completing necessary paperwork, and scheduling and referring patients for tests and treatments. Alternatively, the role may involve functions of a clinic assistant, working under the direction, guidance, and supervision of a licensed physician or nurse. This includes assisting in planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for patients in coordination with other health disciplines. Responsibilities also include preparing patients and assisting the physician with minor surgical procedures, taking vitals such as blood pressure, pulse, and temperature, maintaining inventory of supplies, and sterilizing instruments and equipment. The role may also involve completing lab tests and/or x-rays within the scope of CMA credentials. Certification from a nationally approved accreditation body is required.
