About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) positions at Mercy Health are integral roles within the healthcare team, focused on delivering high-quality patient care under the direction of physicians. The LPN is responsible for direct patient care, including preparing and assessing patients, while the CMA supports the healthcare team by managing patient records and assisting with clinical tasks. Both roles require strong communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ensuring that patient needs are met effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with physicians and other health care team members in meeting patient/family needs.
  • Implements the plan of care by providing direct basic nursing care in accordance with the LPN scope of practice.
  • Appropriately labels and packages specimens, as trained.
  • Assists in providing indirect care through various clerical or administrative duties as assigned by the registered nurse.
  • Acts as a chaperone for health care providers during patient examination as requested.
  • Assists provider with procedures, treatments, and interventions.
  • Provides excellent customer service skills by greeting patients and the community in a respectful manner.
  • Prepares & reviews patient charts for upcoming visits by verifying that all diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
  • Measures vital signs such as pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
  • Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as checking inventory, stock supplies, track referrals, and answer phones as needed.

Requirements

  • Active state Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) licensure or LPN applicant.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association certification.
  • High School Degree or GED for CMA role.
  • Active Medical Assisting Certification (required) for CMA role.
  • One year of clinical patient care experience (preferred, not required) for LPN role.
  • One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required) for CMA role.
  • Two years of clerical experience in a physician's office (preferred, not required) for CMA role.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care to all ages of the patients.
  • Ability to learn and use a computer-based patient appointment scheduling and registration system.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and organization skills.
  • Possesses problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
