About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) at Mayo Clinic plays a crucial role in providing nursing care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor. This position emphasizes a relationship-based care model, ensuring individualized and appropriate care for patients. The LPN is integral to the healthcare team, participating in patient assessment, care planning, and quality improvement projects, all while fostering a culture of teamwork and professionalism.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care to assigned patients under the supervision of an RN or assigned supervisor.
  • Collect data through observation and communicate information to assist in patient assessment and care planning.
  • Deliver care in accordance with the patient care plan and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Participate as a member of the healthcare team and accept delegation from the RN and provider.
  • Mentor and instruct others, and participate in committees or quality improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program.
  • One year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting if graduation did not occur within the last two years.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Computer skills required, with prior experience in electronic medical record systems preferred.
  • Ability to work daytime hours with flexibility to meet staffing needs.
  • Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting.
  • Current LPN license by applicable state requirements.
  • Maintains current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Health Care Providers as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing preferred.
  • One year LPN experience within the last five years preferred.
  • Additional specialty certification/training as required by the work area.
