About the position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) position at the Lebanon VA Medical Center in the Primary Care Service Line involves delivering fundamental, knowledge-based care to patients. The role requires developing technical competencies while performing a wide range of patient personal care, supporting diagnostic services, and maintaining accurate patient records. The LPN will work closely with healthcare teams to ensure quality patient care and adhere to ethical standards in nursing practice.

Responsibilities

  • Supports diagnostic procedures.
  • Assists with technical nursing treatments.
  • Provides care that incorporates the age, gender, culture, and learning needs of patients.
  • Applies infection control measures appropriately in delivering care.
  • Communicates with team members regarding patient care.
  • Adheres to ethical principles and standards in delivering care.
  • Enters information into patients' records/charts.
  • Applies knowledge and skill core competencies of the assigned unit to patient care.
  • Uses effective communication skills with co-workers to achieve desired patient outcomes.
  • Provides teaching to patients.
  • Demonstrates mandatory and clinical competencies of the position.
  • Administers life support measures, CPR when required.
  • Performs messenger duties for Primary Care/Primary Care Specialty Services as needed.
  • Documents procedures performed and results.
  • Checks to see that patients are present for appointments.
  • Prepares patients for treatment and examination and positions them properly.
  • Participates in nursing in-service educational programs.
  • Observes patients for immediate needs and gives prompt attention or seeks help as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Graduate of a school of practical or vocational nursing approved by the appropriate State agency.
  • Full, active, current and unrestricted licensure as a licensed practical or vocational nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth of the United States.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must be able to pass a urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
