About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (BHIP) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves providing comprehensive mental health services to veterans. The role includes conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and delivering therapeutic interventions for various mental health disorders. The counselor will work both in-person and via telehealth, utilizing evidence-based practices to support veterans in crisis and those with complex mental health needs. This position is critical in ensuring the mental well-being of veterans through effective counseling and case management.

Responsibilities

  • Independently assess the psychosocial functioning and needs of Veterans.
  • Utilize DSM-5-TR for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Deliver services in person and via video technology.
  • Provide advanced therapy and consultation for PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other major mental health disorders.
  • Conduct complex crisis intervention and stabilization for patients in psychological distress.
  • Assess and safety plan for suicidality.
  • Utilize Measurement Based Care (MBC) measures for treatment evaluation.
  • Conduct case management services for Veterans enrolled in BHIP Psychology Services.
  • Provide advanced consultation to colleagues and students on psychosocial treatment.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse populations and maintain appropriate records.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from a CACREP accredited program.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
