About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (HUD-VASH) position at the VA Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center & Clinics involves providing comprehensive mental health services to veterans, particularly those experiencing homelessness. The role requires independent case management, psychosocial assessments, and the development of treatment plans in collaboration with veterans and their families. The counselor will also coordinate community-based services, provide crisis intervention, and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with veterans and their families, ensuring adherence to VA policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform case finding functions and outreach to identify and screen veterans for psychosocial needs.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with veterans and their families.
  • Manage documentation requirements of the HUD-VASH program, ensuring timely completion of case notes and reports.
  • Coordinate community-based services and provide referrals to additional services from VA and community programs.
  • Identify high-risk veterans and provide case management services, including crisis intervention and family conferences.
  • Establish and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with veterans and their families.
  • Provide consultation services to other staff regarding the psychosocial needs of veterans.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from varied backgrounds and maintain customer service standards.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of progressively complex LPMHC experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.
  • Advanced knowledge of theories and modalities used in the treatment of complex mental illness.
