About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position within the Mental Health Service at the Dayton VA Medical Center involves providing mental health care to veterans in various settings, including Primary Care Mental Health Integration and outpatient mental health clinics. The role requires advanced training in crisis management and the ability to conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and implement evidence-based psychotherapy. The position is full-time and offers a competitive salary with various benefits.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) in Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI).
  • Work as the interface between primary care and mental health care in an integrated care model.
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for veterans in psychological distress.
  • Conduct bio-psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with veterans and their families.
  • Implement goal-oriented evidence-based psychotherapy within a 12-16 session episode of care.
  • Coordinate community-based services and referrals for additional support.
  • Provide therapeutic services in the Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • At least one year of post-master's or post-doctoral degree mental health counseling experience.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.

  • Experience working with veterans diagnosed with medical conditions, mental illness, and substance use disorders.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices in mental health counseling.
  • Ability to provide subject matter consultation to colleagues and trainees.
