About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves providing comprehensive mental health services to veterans. The counselor will assess, diagnose, and implement treatment plans for a diverse range of clients, utilizing various therapeutic techniques. This role requires a strong commitment to ethical standards and collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure effective treatment delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Independently select and implement appropriate psychological, behavioral, and counseling techniques to assess and diagnose problems accurately.
  • Provide highly skilled clinical service for the full range of clients seeking mental health services.
  • Conduct, score, and interpret assessments, recommending treatment programs based on these assessments.
  • Design and recommend therapeutic programming tailored to client needs.
  • Provide skilled diagnosis and psychotherapy utilizing individual, group, telemedicine, and other standard care delivery forms.
  • Consult with other health care professionals on relevant mental health issues specific to the scope of clinical privileges.
  • Develop, implement, and document psychotherapeutic treatment plans for veterans with psychological and psychiatric problems.
  • Document services provided in the patient's medical record within the required time frame.
  • Adhere to accepted ethical standards in the delivery of clinical services and seek appropriate professional consultation when conflicts arise.
  • Provide formal didactic training to trainees, staff, and other health care providers when appropriate.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in telehealth services.
  • Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based practices in mental health counseling.
