About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center involves providing advanced clinical psychosocial and case management services to eligible veterans and their families. The role focuses on delivering mental health support within a primary care environment, including brief therapy, crisis response, and interdisciplinary collaboration. The LPMHC will independently assess and develop treatment plans, advocate for veterans, and connect them with appropriate VA and community services.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments of veterans and their families to understand their situations and needs.
  • Provide brief therapy and crisis intervention to veterans in a primary care setting.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans in collaboration with veterans and their families.
  • Maintain documentation of assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in electronic medical records.
  • Refer veterans to appropriate benefits officers and community resources as needed.
  • Evaluate complex cases involving psychiatric illnesses and high-risk diagnoses.
  • Foster relationships with other organizations to enhance service delivery for veterans.
  • Utilize advanced clinical skills to engage with veterans and their families effectively.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Demonstrate at least one year of post-master's or post-doctoral degree mental health counseling experience.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
