About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (PCMHI) position at the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center involves providing advanced clinical psychosocial and case management services to veterans and their families. The role focuses on delivering mental health support within a primary care setting, including brief therapy, crisis response, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to address the mental health needs of eligible veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments of veterans and their family members to understand their situations and needs.
  • Refer veterans to appropriate benefits officers and services.
  • Interpret assessment data using advanced clinical training and experience.
  • Evaluate clients' situations independently and develop preliminary disposition plans.
  • Assess symptoms of abuse and follow VA guidelines for reporting.
  • Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes in electronic medical records.
  • Develop working relationships with other organizations to coordinate care for veterans.
  • Provide crisis intervention and stabilization for patients in psychological distress.
  • Utilize a variety of counseling interventions sensitive to diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • At least one year of post-master's or post-doctoral degree mental health counseling experience.
