About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (Program Coordinator) position at the Erie VA Medical Center involves providing comprehensive mental health services to veterans, including assessment, treatment, and case management. The role requires expertise in substance use disorders and various mental health conditions, with a focus on delivering evidence-based practices. The counselor will work within the Behavioral Health Clinic, coordinating treatment activities and participating in program development and staff training.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake screenings and evaluations of Veterans and their significant others.
  • Perform comprehensive intake assessments that meet regulatory standards.
  • Reassess and monitor the status of problematic behaviors during treatment.
  • Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy, as well as crisis intervention.
  • Develop and revise treatment plans based on patient needs and progress.
  • Coordinate treatment activities as the Mental Health Treatment Coordinator (MHTC).
  • Participate in administrative and clinical functions such as quality assurance and program planning.
  • Provide training to staff and maintain accurate records for reporting.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Proficient in spoken and written English.
  • At least one year of progressively complex experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Substance Use Disorder and Evidence-Based Practices.
  • Experience working with adults, couples, and veterans.
  • Knowledge of trauma, anxiety, and depression treatment.
