About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (Program Manager) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs is responsible for overseeing the Readjustment Counseling Service (RCS) at a Vet Center. This role involves professional and administrative supervision of counseling services provided to eligible veterans and their families, ensuring effective outreach, referrals, and follow-up care coordination. The Program Manager will lead a multidisciplinary team, manage operational obligations, and provide direct counseling services both in-person and virtually.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Program Manager for the Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor at the Vet Center.
  • Supervise professional and nonprofessional staff, including a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals.
  • Oversee the fiscal, contractual, and operational obligations of the community-based Vet Center.
  • Lead coordination and briefing during meetings with Congressional representatives and their staff.
  • Plan, establish, and implement Vet Center policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and evaluate the work of all Vet Center staff.
  • Provide direct readjustment counseling services within and outside of the Vet Center.

Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with combat veterans in providing family counseling services.
  • Experience working with veterans who were sexually traumatized or harassed while in the military.
  • Experience conducting psycho-social assessments and providing psychotherapy for trauma-related conditions.
