About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position at the Veterans Health Administration in Grand Junction, CO, is a full-time role focused on providing mental health services to veterans. The counselor will assess and document behaviors, implement evidence-based treatments, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and coordinate care plans. This position is essential in supporting veterans' mental health needs and facilitating their recovery through comprehensive case management and advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and document behaviors or symptoms of abuse, neglect, or exploitation.
  • Evaluate the psychosocial functioning and needs of veterans, collaborating with family members and the interdisciplinary team.
  • Make decisions regarding the use of VA and non-VA services and referrals based on initial assessments.
  • Implement clinically indicated and evidence-based treatments to assist veterans in achieving their goals.
  • Provide case management and care coordination to facilitate appropriate delivery of healthcare services.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop discharge plans and set achievable goals.
  • Coordinate post-discharge services including VA and community-based services.
  • Attend interdisciplinary treatment team meetings and update treatment and discharge plans as necessary.
  • Act as an advocate with appropriate VA and community service providers/agencies.
  • Maintain a current and productive network of referral resources.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments with cultural competence.
  • Provide professional social work services to veterans experiencing various complex issues.
  • Utilize crisis intervention techniques with veterans in acute crisis situations.
  • Conduct timely assessments of at-risk veterans and initiate safety plans as appropriate.
  • Implement different treatment modalities for veterans, families, and groups to achieve treatment goals.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory.
  • Must hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Ability to engage in intake and assessment, problem identification, diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of the current DSM for formulating treatment goals and applying appropriate clinical interventions.
  • Basic knowledge of professional counseling practices and human development principles.
  • Ability to use a variety of counseling interventions and demonstrate sensitivity to diversity.
  • Ability to serve on an interdisciplinary team focusing on relational functioning and counseling strategies.
