About the position

The Substance Treatment And Recovery Services (STARS) Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) will provide mental health services to assigned Veteran patients enrolled in the SATP within the Columbia VA Health Care System. This includes high quality case management, clinical assessment and treatment, advocacy, and coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers/agencies as needed by the patient.

Responsibilities

• Develops an extensive psychosocial assessment of the Veteran in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, the Veteran, family members and significant others.
• Assists in developing a treatment plan with the Veteran based on the assessment and determines the most effective treatment methods.
• Employs a vast array of clinical skills and services to accomplish treatment objectives outlined within the patient's STARS treatment plan.
• Conducts individual and family therapy and facilitates weekly Consult Intervention Groups.
• Assists in the successful completion and tracking of performance measures related to substance use treatment.
• Makes rapid assessments and develops crisis management plans for admission to mental health inpatient programs.
• Documents all patient care assessments, interventions and treatment progress in CPRS in a timely and professional manner.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Hold a Master's or Doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
• Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
• Proficient in written and spoken English.
• Must pass pre-employment physical examination.
• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
