About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position at Columbia VA Health Care System involves providing comprehensive mental health services, including individual and group therapy, psychological assessments, and consultations with other healthcare professionals. The role is essential in delivering evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions and education to patients and their families, while functioning as a key member of the Outpatient Mental Health Team.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a full range of psycho-diagnostic services.
  • Assists with diagnoses of mental disorders, particularly for complex or unusually difficult patients.
  • Provides comprehensive, evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions, including individual, family, and group psychotherapy.
  • Educates patients, family members, significant others, and community members.
  • Consults with professional staff within the WJB Dorn VAMC or CBOC and to community providers regarding clinical assessment findings and treatment plans.
  • Assumes complete professional responsibility for clinical findings, patient care decisions, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to independently practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in providing clinical supervision to trainees or unlicensed LPMHCs.
  • Familiarity with the current Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) of Mental Disorders.
