About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position at the Veterans Health Administration in Chesapeake, VA, is a full-time role focused on providing mental health services to veterans within a multidisciplinary patient aligned care team (PACT) framework. The counselor will deliver brief, consultation-based services, conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and provide individual and group interventions to support veterans coping with various mental health and psychosocial issues. This role requires collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for patients.

Responsibilities

  • Provide immediate access to clinical assessment and appropriate collaborative care for veterans experiencing mental health symptoms.
  • Deliver individual and group interventions to support patients coping with health psychology presentations and psychosocial stressors.
  • Function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, providing consultation about mental health diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop treatment plans in collaboration with veterans and the interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Identify high-risk patients and provide crisis intervention services, coordinating family conferences as needed.
  • Participate in administrative and informational meetings and committee assignments related to performance improvement and peer review.
  • Assist with staff education and training on assigned topics.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is required.
  • Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is required.
  • Must meet educational and licensure requirements for the position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting with veterans or similar populations.
  • Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses and treatment procedures.
  • Familiarity with VHA programs and services.
