About the position

The Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor (LPMHC) position at the Fargo VA Health Care System is a full-time role located at the Minot Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The LPMHC will be responsible for diagnosing and treating mental disorders in Veterans through various modalities, including individual and group therapy. This position emphasizes a Whole Health System of care, focusing on personalized health plans and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to enhance the well-being of Veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose mental disorders and conduct psychological intake evaluations.
  • Provide individual and group treatment through psycho-educational and psychotherapeutic modalities.
  • Complete thorough psychosocial assessments to determine the needs of Veterans and their families.
  • Utilize telehealth equipment to deliver services and education.
  • Actively participate in interdisciplinary treatment teams to develop and implement treatment goals.
  • Implement treatment modalities and provide educational classes for Veterans and families.
  • Consult with treatment team members regarding psychosocial needs and healthcare planning.
  • Maintain knowledge of Veterans' benefits and community resources for appropriate referrals.
  • Complete clinical documentation according to healthcare standards.
  • Communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Hold a master's or doctoral degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling or a related field from an accredited program.
  • Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice as a Licensed Professional Mental Health Counselor.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to engage in intake and assessment, problem identification, diagnosis, treatment planning, and implementation.
  • Knowledge of the DSM for formulating treatment goals and applying clinical interventions.
  • Basic knowledge of professional counseling practices and human development principles.
  • Ability to use various counseling interventions and demonstrate multicultural counseling skills.
  • Ability to serve on an interdisciplinary team and focus on relational functioning.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with telehealth services.
  • Familiarity with evidence-based treatments for mental health disorders.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and stabilization.
