About the position

The Licensed Veterinary Technician will support and work closely with instructors, students, and other personnel in the veterinary technology department. This role involves assisting with lab set-up and break-down, supervising students during labs and patient care shifts, providing husbandry and nursing care to animals, maintaining facility equipment, and managing laboratory supplies and medical records. The technician will also assist with admitting and discharging shelter patients and adhere to various policies and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist instructors with on-campus, online, and field trip lab set-up and break-down
  • Supervise students with their lab skills during labs, extracurricular activities, and patient care shifts
  • Provide husbandry and nursing care to animals and train animal caretakers
  • Maintain facility equipment and keep lab rooms orderly
  • Assist in ordering and maintaining laboratory supplies, equipment, and inventory
  • Maintain medical records for animals
  • Assist with admitting and discharging shelter patients
  • Assist with AVMA accreditations
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and regulations of NOVA, VCCS, AVMA, USDA, DEA, and VA Board of Veterinary Medicine
  • Attend events related to the Vet Tech Program
  • Assist with any other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Licensed Veterinary Technician with valid/active Virginia license
  • Clinical experience
  • Ability to work with a diverse student population

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated, self-starter, and well organized
  • Ability to handle many tasks and projects simultaneously

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional licensing as a credentialed technician from a different state and eligible to obtain a VA state license within 30 days of hire
  • Experience maintaining inventory and/or purchasing
