About the position

The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) position at the Veterans Health Administration in Dallas, TX, is responsible for providing patient care under minimal supervision, performing medical administration tasks, and ensuring veteran safety. The role includes conducting assessments, administering medications, and participating in interdisciplinary team meetings to enhance patient care. This position is part of a permanent, full-time employment opportunity and is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Responsibilities

  • Provides care with minimal RN supervision to a select group of patients, performing and documenting focused assessments and reporting abnormal findings.
  • Performs Accu-Check glucoscreen, takes and records vital signs, and reports significant deviations to the RN or healthcare provider.
  • Evaluates nutritional needs for patients and administers feeding through various tubes as necessary.
  • Actively participates in interdisciplinary team planning and patient care meetings.
  • Utilizes problem-solving processes when patient problems arise and informs RN about data obtained.
  • Mentors non-RN staff and student nurses.
  • Independently establishes priorities and varies the sequence of nursing care based on patient conditions.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Graduate of an approved school of vocational nursing.
  • Must have a full, current, active, and unrestricted license as a graduate licensed practical or vocational nurse.
  • Experience in clinical settings, preferably with 2 years of clinical LVN experience within the last 3 years.

  • 1 Year LVN Acute Care Experience within the last 5 years
  • 1 Year LVN Adult Outpatient Primary Care Experience
  • VA Experience
