About the position
The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) position at the Department of Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System involves providing safe, competent, and compassionate care to patients under the supervision of a registered nurse. The role includes a variety of nursing duties, patient care responsibilities, and collaboration with the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which offers student loan reimbursement for qualified individuals.
Responsibilities
- Provide safe and competent nursing care to patients under the supervision of an RN.
- Administer prescribed medications and perform treatments according to established policies and procedures.
- Observe and document changes in patients' conditions and report deviations to the RN or provider.
- Establish constructive relationships with patients and their families to promote positive communication.
- Assist in complex diagnostic tests and procedures, preparing patients and monitoring their conditions.
- Serve as a preceptor for less experienced nursing staff, providing training and education.
- Actively seek educational opportunities to enhance nursing knowledge and skills.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Graduation from an approved school of vocational nursing.
- Must have a full, current, active, and unrestricted license as a graduate licensed practical or vocational nurse.
- Proficient in written and spoken English.
Nice-to-haves
- 2 years of clinical LVN experience within the last 3 years.
- 1 year of LVN acute care experience within the last 5 years.
- 1 year of LVN adult outpatient primary care experience.
