About the position
The Licensing Associate at North Carolina A&T State University plays a crucial role in the commercialization of technology developed through university research. This position involves evaluating and advancing inventions, assessing intellectual property rights, and coordinating resources for commercialization. The Licensing Associate is responsible for developing marketing strategies, negotiating licensing agreements, and managing active licenses, while ensuring compliance with reporting obligations to various stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial assessment of technology arising from N.C. A&T research.
- Evaluate, advance, and license N.C. A&T inventions by assessing intellectual property rights.
- Explore commercialization opportunities and coordinate access to resources.
- Develop and execute marketing and licensing strategies.
- Identify valuation and financial terms for license negotiations.
- Draft and negotiate intellectual property-related agreements.
- Manage active license agreements and ensure compliance with reporting obligations.
Requirements
- Post-Baccalaureate degree in a STEM, law, or business discipline; or an undergraduate degree in a STEM or business discipline with two or more years of relevant experience in technology transfer or industrial business development.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
Nice-to-haves
- Master's, J.D. or Ph.D. degree in a STEM, law, or business discipline.
- Three or more years of relevant experience in technology transfer or industrial business development.
