About the position

The Special Education Assistant 1:1 position at Licton Springs K-8 is designed to support a student in a Developmental Pre-K classroom. The role involves assisting in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students, implementing educational plans, monitoring behavior, and providing necessary medical assistance. The assistant will work closely with teachers and other school personnel to ensure that the individual needs of students are met, contributing to a safe and positive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students in the classroom.
  • Adapt classroom activities and materials under the direction of the teacher to facilitate student participation.
  • Administer tests, homework, and other materials to assist the teacher in evaluating student progress.
  • Provide first aid and medical assistance as required for injured children.
  • Support students with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations.
  • Attend meetings and in-service presentations to acquire and convey job-related information.
  • Confer with teachers and parents regarding student progress and IEP objectives.
  • Implement behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
  • Instruct students in various activities to reinforce instructional objectives and support their educational goals.
  • Maintain instructional materials and student records to ensure availability and reliability of information.
  • Monitor students during assigned periods in various school environments to ensure safety.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CPR Certification and First Aid training required.
  • Basic math skills, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios.
  • Experience with children preferred but not required.
  • Valid State of Washington Driver's License or equivalent mobility.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.

Benefits

  • Full-time position with a salary range of $45,472.00 - $61,841.92 per year.
