About the position

The Life Enrichment Assistant supports the Lead Life Enrichment Coordinator at Hillcrest's memory care community, Southwoods Lodge, by planning and delivering engaging, person-centered activities for residents. The role aims to enhance the quality of life and well-being of residents through physical, mental, spiritual, social, and emotional stimulation. This part-time position requires working weekends and some weekdays, focusing on creating a supportive environment for residents with memory care needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of life enrichment opportunities that align with residents' needs, interests, and abilities.
  • Lead weekend group activities such as music therapy, art projects, games, exercise classes, and sensory stimulation activities.
  • Engage residents in one-on-one interactions to encourage participation and provide companionship.
  • Work closely with the Lead Life Enrichment Coordinator to adapt activities based on the changing needs and preferences of residents.
  • Ensure activities are safe, appropriate, and sensitive to the cognitive abilities of memory care residents.
  • Help organize special events, seasonal celebrations, and outings.
  • Promote a positive, supportive environment for all residents by demonstrating patience, compassion, and respect.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience working with individuals with dementia or Alzheimer's disease is preferred; experience working in education and/or with individuals with special needs is also acceptable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to connect with residents on a personal level.
  • Creativity and enthusiasm for planning engaging meaningful activities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team under the supervisor's guidance.
  • Basic understanding of dementia care and person-centered care approaches (or willingness to accept training).
  • CPR and First Aid certifications (or willingness to obtain them).
  • Criminal background screening (fingerprinting through the Department of Justice and FBI) completed and free of criminal convictions.
