About the position

This position is in Region 2, Superfund and Emergency Management Division. It is an office-centered position, requiring regular physical reporting to the duty station in Edison, NJ. The EPA offers work-from-home and work schedule flexibilities as described in the Benefits section. The position is open for applications from 12/31/2024 to 01/07/2025, with a salary range of $85,236 - $132,807 per year, based on the selected grade level (GS 11 - 12). The job is permanent, full-time, and has a promotion potential to GS-13. The position requires a secret security clearance and pre-employment drug testing.

Responsibilities

  • Respond on an emergency basis to the accidental or deliberate release of oil or hazardous materials including biological, chemical and radiological agents or uncontrolled hazardous waste.
  • Serve as a warranted Contracting Officer with independent contracting authority in accordance with the Delegation of Procurement Authority (DPA) from the EPA Office of Acquisition Management.
  • Conduct official investigations and inspections for both fund-led and enforcement-led removal responses.
  • Provide assessments for environmental incidents and determine appropriate emergency response.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. citizen.

  • Pre-employment physical may be required and periodic physicals thereafter.
  • Must undergo a background investigation.
  • Participation in the medical monitoring program is required.
  • Must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

  • Experience with the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) and the Superfund Reauthorization Act (SARA).
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste site cleanup techniques and technologies.
