About the position

As a Life Skills Coach at ACLD, you will play a vital role in helping individuals with developmental disabilities achieve greater independence and improve their quality of life. This position is centered around providing support and guidance to clients, assisting them in developing essential life skills, integrating into their communities, and fostering a sense of independence. You will work closely with clients to teach them practical skills such as meal preparation, money management, and social interaction, all aimed at enhancing their daily living capabilities. The Life Skills Coach position is available in Hauppauge, NY, and Deer Park, NY, with full-time hours from Monday to Friday. In Hauppauge, the working hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, while in Deer Park, the hours are from 8:00 AM to 3:45 PM. In this role, you will be responsible for facilitating group activities that promote socialization and community engagement, as well as providing transportation for clients to and from their community activities and residences. Your efforts will help clients feel proud of their accomplishments and encourage them to aspire to higher goals in their lives. Responsibilities

  • Teach clients essential life skills such as meal preparation and money handling.
  • Facilitate group activities that promote socialization and community integration.
  • Transport clients to and from community activities and their residences.
  • Assist clients in achieving greater independence and self-sufficiency.
  • Provide support and encouragement to clients to help them reach their personal goals.

Requirements

  • A clean, valid NYS Driver's license.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working with the intellectually and developmentally disabled population preferred, but training is provided.
  • Experience as a Caregiver, Care Assistant, Personal Assistant, Resident Assistant, Direct Care Worker, Nursing Assistant, Home Care Aide, or Companion is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in cash handling.
