Life Skills Mentor - Youth Residential

About the position

The Direct Support Professional position at The Arc involves providing support to children and young adults with disabilities in a residential setting. The role focuses on assisting individuals aged 16 to 20, helping them develop skills for independent living while ensuring their health and safety. Staff will work in a home-like environment, tailoring support to meet the unique needs of each individual.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support to children and young adults in a residential setting.
• Implement individualized programs tailored to each child's specific disabilities or challenges.
• Assist with daily living activities and promote independence among residents.
• Ensure the health and safety of the individuals served through proper physical interventions.
• Participate in job shadowing and training to learn best practices in care provision.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be 21 years old or older.
• Valid driver's license for at least two years, excluding learner's permit time.
• Ability to pass a basic reading comprehension and math test.
• Must pass a background check and pre-employment screenings, including a drug screen and physical/fitness test.
• Physically fit to lift and transfer at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to provide direct care and implement proper physical interventions.
