About the position

Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES anticipates operating a 6-week ESY Program for students with disabilities from July 1, 2024 through August 9, 2024. This is a unique position responsible for providing assistance to students and staff in the aquatherapy area. Assistance will include, but not be limited to, assistance entering and exiting the pool, operating pool controls and setting up pool apparatus. Duties will also include maintaining a clean, safe environment in the aquatherapy area. Candidate must ensure optimal use of the aquatherapy area (preparing areas for use, maintenance of equipment, etc.), and must ensure water in the pool area is safe for use (proper chemical levels, cleanliness, etc.). Must be prepared and qualified to respond to students or staff in difficulty, providing CPR and/or first aid as necessary. To begin July 1, 2024 (Only those who can work the full 6-week program and those who are available to attend the ESY Orientation on June 4, 2024 at 3:00 PM need apply).

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance to students and staff in the aquatherapy area.
  • Assist students entering and exiting the pool.
  • Operate pool controls and set up pool apparatus.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment in the aquatherapy area.
  • Ensure optimal use of the aquatherapy area, including preparing areas for use and maintaining equipment.
  • Ensure water in the pool area is safe for use, including monitoring proper chemical levels and cleanliness.
  • Respond to students or staff in difficulty, providing CPR and/or first aid as necessary.

Requirements

  • Possess a current lifeguard training certificate from the American Red Cross, American Heart Association, YMCA, or Boy Scouts of America.
  • Maintain current certification in first aid and CPR.
  • Exhibit strong organizational skills and the ability to think quickly and adapt to a changing environment.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills to work well with students, administrators, teachers, and support staff.
