About the position

The Lifeguard Instructor is responsible for providing instruction, leadership, supervision, and safety for all class participants under the direction of the Life Saving Training Institute. This part-time role involves planning and organizing teaching outlines, adapting teaching methods to suit participants' abilities, and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan and organize personal class teaching outlines, methods, and goals that support the general teaching outlines provided by the American Red Cross Lifeguard and CPR programs.
• Adapt teaching approaches to match the experience and abilities of participants.
• Organize and direct activities of assigned participants to provide high-quality instruction.
• Problem-solve and think on your feet during instruction.
• Ensure all class students are registered and on the class roster prior to beginning class.
• Resolve simple public complaints related to instruction and refer other complaints to the supervisor.
• Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules for all individuals using the facilities.
• Help organize and assist in the development of special programs, activities, or instruction.
• Complete and submit records and documentation of completed classes to the supervisor.
• Work with co-workers and supervisor to upgrade and refine individual teaching skills.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
• Current CPR/First Aid/AED Certifications required.

Nice-to-haves

• Current Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification preferred but willing to train the right person.
• Previous lifeguard instruction experience preferred.
• Teaching experience preferred.
