About the position

This posting is for a light duty maintenance position at Ripley High School. The Light Duty Maintenance personnel will be assigned to the school and will perform various maintenance tasks for the facility. This position is classified as a non-certified employment opportunity, meaning it does not require certification but involves essential maintenance duties to ensure the school environment is safe and functional. The role is crucial in maintaining the overall appearance and operational efficiency of the school facilities, contributing to a conducive learning environment for students and staff alike. The Light Duty Maintenance Worker will report directly to the Principal and the Director of Maintenance. The responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including general maintenance, plumbing, electrical work, playground and school grounds upkeep, and other duties as assigned by the principal. The worker will be expected to perform tasks that require physical effort and the ability to work at heights, ensuring that all maintenance needs are met promptly and effectively. This role is vital in supporting the daily operations of the school and ensuring that all facilities are in good working order.

Responsibilities

  • Replace light bulbs; 4 ft, 8 ft, screw in bulbs inside and outside building- anything that can be reached with a standard step ladder
  • Replace broken or stained ceiling tiles and floor tiles as needed
  • Tighten and replace screws, bolts and nuts on doors, door hardware, locks and door closers
  • Assemble equipment and furniture including tables, desks, chairs, classroom equipment, office equipment, installing dry boards, bulletin boards, pencil trimmers, shelves and any other small items requested by the principal
  • Move books, furniture, filing cabinets, book shelves, desks, chairs and other classroom furniture
  • Replace and repair stall walls in bathrooms
  • Repair toilets and urinals with repair kits
  • Repair faucets, water lines or cutting them off
  • Replace traps on sinks
  • Unstop toilets, urinals, sinks, and drinking fountains
  • Replace outlet covers that are broken or missing
  • Replace plugs on cords and equipment
  • Replace light switches and covers that are broken or missing
  • Inspect and tighten all bolts, screws and nuts on all playground equipment: swings, seesaws, slides, etc.
  • Check benches for stability
  • Replace chains and hinges on all playground equipment
  • Keep all playground equipment free of flying insect nests (wasp, bumble bee, etc.)
  • Fill any small potholes on playground
  • Keep school grounds clear of trash and clutter
  • Perform any painting or other maintenance items requested by the principal
  • Unload/load books, equipment, food at dock, etc. in cafeteria
  • Climb ladders and other areas of heights over 6 feet
  • Perform any other duty assigned by the principal

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and work at heights over 6 feet
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems
  • Experience in general maintenance tasks
  • Ability to follow instructions and work independently
