About the position

The Associate/Paraeducator at Mt Pleasant Community School District plays a crucial role in supporting a safe and positive learning environment for students. This position involves assisting in the physical and intellectual development of students, fostering their social, emotional, and behavioral growth, and effectively integrating technology into the learning process. The Paraeducator is expected to maintain confidentiality, supervise students, implement behavior management strategies, and communicate progress with teachers, all while adhering to ethical and professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Support a safe, positive teaching and learning environment.
  • Assist in the development of students' physical and intellectual growth.
  • Support social, emotional, and behavioral development.
  • Establish positive and productive relationships with students.
  • Effectively integrate technology to support student learning.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information in accordance with FERPA.
  • Supervise and assist students during out-of-classroom activities such as bus duty, recess, field trips, and lunchroom.
  • Implement behavior management strategies as directed by the teacher.
  • Perform clerical duties such as copying, filing, grading papers, and typing.
  • Assist students in using computers and technology.
  • Carry out educational plans for small groups or individual students, including those with IEPs or 504 Plans.
  • Monitor student progress and communicate with teachers regarding student performance.
  • Attend staffing meetings at the request of the teacher, principal, or parent.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the principal.

Requirements

  • Earned high school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Para Educator Certificate or equivalent preferred.
