About The Position

The Line Mechanic D position at American Electric Power involves assisting in the installation, maintenance, operation, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. Requirements

• High school graduate or GED required.
• No previous work experience required; line work experience or line school education preferred.
• Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime, and shift work as required.
• Must successfully complete the Construction and Skilled Trades (CAST) selection test.
• Must obtain a valid commercial driver's license before the end of the probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the installation, maintenance, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities.
• Drive and operate line trucks and associated auxiliary equipment.
• Report unsafe conditions and practices.
• Assemble, install, maintain, and remove conductors and fixtures on overhead facilities.
• Supply employees working aloft with necessary tools and equipment.
• Assist in setting poles, including in energized areas with proper safety procedures.
• Cut, spray, or stack trees and brush for transmission right-of-way control.
• Operate automotive equipment and perform duties incidental to its operation.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition.
• Attend and participate in training and assist in training other employees.
