About the position

The Line Mechanic position at Berkshire Hathaway Energy involves the installation and maintenance of electric distribution and transmission systems, including overhead and underground facilities. The role requires working safely and efficiently, often in collaboration with a crew, to ensure the proper functioning of electrical systems and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Performs the duties of Electric Service Technician, Utility Operator, and Meter Utility Person.
• Installs, changes, transfers, moves, and removes poles, line hardware, transformers, streetlight equipment, electrical cable, and other electrical materials.
• Works with hot line tools on energized circuits of all voltages.
• Performs steel tower structural work including the erection, removal, and repair of steel towers and electrical equipment.
• Operates electrical instruments such as voltmeters and ammeters, and reads meters.
• Patrols transmission and distribution circuits and inspects poles and towers.
• Drives a truck and is responsible for tools and equipment.
• Locates underground gas and electric facilities and performs minor tree trimming as necessary.
• Completes written reports on fieldwork and accounts for materials and time associated with each job.
• Leads, trains, and instructs employees in their work, including switching operations.

Requirements

• Class 'A' CDL required.
• Pipeline/Hwy Alcohol & Drug Testing certification.
• CIP certification.
• At least four years of related experience in installing overhead and underground utilities and related hardware.
• Current journeyworker card/certificate/license or evidence of completing an apprenticeship training program preferred.
