The Lineman Journeyman position at American Electric Power involves building, repairing, and maintaining electrical transmission and distribution systems. Responsibilities

  • Climb poles or use a bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles.
  • Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals.
  • Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools and mechanical devices.
  • Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
  • Use insulated poles and rubber gloves to perform energized line work.
  • Service streetlight systems and patrol power lines as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B-200 certification with a score of 80% or higher.
  • Minimum of 4 years line work experience for external candidates and successful completion of the journeyman pre-assessment.
  • Valid CDL A state driver's license.
