About the position

The Lineman Journeyman position at American Electric Power involves building, repairing, and maintaining electrical transmission and distribution systems. The position demands physical capability to work at heights and the use of specialized tools and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Climb poles or use a bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators, or other hardware on poles.
• Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads, and pedestals.
• Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses, and insulators using hand tools and mechanical devices.
• Cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high-voltage lines without interrupting service.
• Use insulated poles and rubber gloves to perform energized line work.
• Service streetlight systems and patrol power lines as needed.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including B-200 certification with a score of 80% or higher.
• Minimum of 4 years line work experience for external candidates and successful completion of the journeyman pre-assessment.
• Valid CDL A state driver's license.
