About the position

The Lineworker Apprentice position at National Grid is designed for individuals who have completed the overhead pre-line school and passed the Test on Record. This apprenticeship provides hands-on training and experience in the Overhead Lines Department, focusing on the skills necessary to assist line crews in setting poles and constructing transmission lines. The role requires physical ability to work at heights and operate various tools and equipment under supervision, with the goal of progressing to a Line Worker 1/C position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist line crews in setting poles and constructing transmission lines.
  • Become proficient at climbing poles and working at heights.
  • Utilize line worker tools and equipment effectively.
  • Observe, learn, and perform duties of Line Worker 3/C under direct supervision.
  • Complete all requirements of the 'Pre-Overhead Line School'.
  • Accept trouble shooter positions when qualified.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must successfully complete mechanical aptitude screening (Test on Record).
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and ability to advance to Line Worker 1/C through progression process.
  • Must have and retain a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
  • Must obtain and retain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with proper endorsements.
  • Must be physically able to operate safely all Company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
