Linguist III

About the position

The Linguist III position at Iron Systems focuses on leveraging linguistic expertise to enhance data-driven models and product improvements. The role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve digital assistant capabilities through data analysis, model training, and rule-based system enhancements.

Responsibilities

• Provide linguistic expertise in phonetics, phonology, lexicography, dialectology, and NLP.
• Build datasets, run and modify data pipelines, and train, analyze, evaluate machine learning models.
• Build rules in rule-based systems and improve data quality/coverage with scripts to enhance ML models.
• Clearly communicate with project stakeholders.
• Identify best practices and improve procedures across data systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including conversation designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers to enhance a digital assistant.
• Share work and provide feedback to teammates.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in linguistics, language technologies, computational linguistics, speech science, or a related field.
• Native or advanced language skills in French or Italian is a must.
• Intermediate or advanced Python, SQL skills, and solid Regex knowledge.
• Knowledge of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology, and other areas of linguistics.
• Experience analyzing language data and solving language issues.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated and proactive in managing owned areas.
• Ability to work in not-fully-defined projects and proactively debug and seek out solutions.

Nice-to-haves

• Intermediate/advanced language skills in Spanish, Indian languages, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese, or German.
