About the position

LinkedIn is seeking a Data Center Engineer to join our global Data Center Engineering team, which is dedicated to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our data centers. This role is crucial as it involves working in a production environment with over 10,000 servers, where you will be responsible for hardware deployments and serve as a point of escalation for contracted employees handling server break-fix tickets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in server and network hardware installation, as well as experience in troubleshooting Linux and Unix systems. This position is based in Richardson, TX, and requires full-time physical presence in the office to effectively manage the responsibilities associated with the role. As a Data Center Engineer, you will engage in various tasks that include racking, cabling, and configuring management network devices and console switches. You will also review break-fix tickets daily to ensure compliance with Data Center Operations standards and provide quality control after installations by third-party vendors. Your role will involve executing LinkedIn's build readiness tool to prepare server nodes for the Linux Kickstart process and addressing any issues that arise during this process. Additionally, you will troubleshoot network issues, manage decommissioning of server nodes, and monitor electrical infrastructure faults, escalating any critical incidents to Senior Engineers as necessary. This position not only requires technical expertise but also the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams to coordinate hardware installations and address technical challenges. You will be expected to uphold LinkedIn's data center house rules and report any concerns to leadership. Responsibilities

  • Racking, cabling, and initial configuration of all management network devices.
  • Racking, cabling, and initial configuration of all console switches.
  • Review all break-fix tickets daily to ensure they meet Data Center Operations standards and escalate concerns to the local site supervisor.
  • Provide quality control after third-party vendor installations for all network and server cabinet deployments.
  • Execute LinkedIn's build readiness tool to ensure server nodes are ready for the Linux Kickstart process.
  • Remediate all Linux Kickstart nodes that do not build properly.
  • Troubleshoot dark fiber issues and all network issues at LinkedIn's regional POPs.
  • Identify, tag, and remove from chassis all server nodes ready for decommissioning and prepare them for third-party ITAM vendor pickup.
  • Review LinkedIn's Incident Dashboard daily and act on any fatal or warning incidents, escalating to Senior Engineers as necessary.
  • Provide a monthly 'site health' metrics report to Data Center Operations leadership.
  • Act as a point of escalation for contracted employees providing tier 1, tier 2, and tier 3 break-fix support.
  • Assist with hardware installations for quarterly organic growth initiatives and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in a Data Center Engineering Role
  • 1+ years of Linux troubleshooting experience
  • 1+ years of server hardware troubleshooting experience
  • 1+ years of physical layer network troubleshooting experience
