About the position

The Linux Administrator at Unison Systems will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery of information systems for a client in downtown Denver, CO. This role involves a combination of production support and new project initiatives, including server installation, system performance monitoring, and user support in a multi-platform environment. The candidate will also be tasked with hardware and OS maintenance across various server types and will need to demonstrate strong organizational and communication skills to manage projects effectively in a dynamic setting.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and apply applicable OS patches and infrastructure maintenance
  • Monitor and analyze application and system performance
  • Daily review of system logs to identify, track, and report application and/or OS issues and events
  • Analyze system utilization and trending to plan for system/application/storage growth
  • Create and modify system scripts to handle automatic processes in the system
  • Assist in performing and documenting procedures for disaster recovery purposes
  • Perform system maintenance and upgrades on IT maintenance weekends
  • Help to formulate and document standard operating procedures
  • Create and maintain system documentation
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for after hours support
  • Actively monitor a ticket queue for new tasks
  • Install and configure new hardware
  • Add users and printers to the operating system as requested by customers
  • Aid in installation of applications as required by development and application teams
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested by management
  • Occasional travel will be required.

Requirements

  • 4+ years experience with Linux Debian/Ubuntu
  • Puppet configuration management software
  • VMWare Virtualization software
  • Hands on experience with Virtualization of UNIX systems
  • Shell scripting and/or Perl skills for system administration
  • Excellent Communication Skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Oracle VM VirtualBox
  • Red Hat Satellite administration
  • 4+ years experience with other operating systems (IBM AIX, Red Hat Linux)
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP and networking fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of general server hardware and support
  • Working knowledge of Storage Area Networks
  • Working knowledge of Infrastructure Security best practices
  • Experience with enterprise systems management tools
