About the position

The Linux and Radio Mission System Administrator role involves managing and maintaining IT infrastructure and radio communication systems to support the United States Air Force (USAF). The position requires a strong background in Linux systems administration and radio technologies, with responsibilities including system ownership, development, and innovative problem-solving. The administrator will work in a 24/7 operations center, ensuring high availability and performance of Linux-based systems and radio communication systems, while collaborating with internal teams to meet project requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain Linux-based systems and radio communication systems.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Perform regular updates and patches on Linux servers.
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and security settings on Linux servers.
  • Configure and maintain radio communication systems, including hardware and software components.
  • Integrate radio technology with Linux-based systems for seamless operation and data flow.
  • Provide technical support and guidance on Linux and radio technology matters.
  • Document system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Collaborate with IT and engineering teams to support project requirements and operational goals.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a Linux Administrator.
  • Experience with radio communication systems, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, or Perl.
  • Experience with network protocols, firewalls, and security best practices.
  • Knowledge of Linux operating systems, including Ubuntu or Red Hat.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively in a team environment.
  • Secret clearance.
  • HS diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain DoD 8570 IAT Level II networking Certification or DoD 8140 System Administrator (451) Certification within 90 days of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with telecommunications, information technology, or broadcasting industries.
  • Experience with PRC-117 systems.
  • Experience with Command and Control (C2) Department of Defense (DoD) systems.
  • Experience with the Joint Range Extension (JRE) and JRE Applications Protocol (JREAP) suites.
  • Experience with Multi Source Correlator Tracker (MSCT) system.
  • Knowledge of radios.
  • Possession of excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Possession of strong communication skills.
  • RHCE, LPIC, or related Certification.
