About the position

The Linux DevOps Engineer role is focused on ensuring the daily operational availability of Linux and Unix platforms to support business operations, both on-premises and in the cloud, primarily Azure. This position involves administration, performance monitoring, and security management of Linux/Unix systems, while collaborating with various IT operations teams to meet service level agreements and maintain system resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure effective daily availability of Linux & Unix platforms for business operations.
  • Administer and monitor performance of Linux/Unix systems across various platforms.
  • Work closely with IT Operations Teams including Service Desk, Infrastructure, EDI, Web, SAP, and IT Management.
  • Provision Linux systems and services as required by the business with associated SLAs.
  • Configure and patch systems to maintain standards.
  • Provide print services to support warehouse operations.
  • Implement backup and recovery solutions and regularly test them in line with audit requirements.
  • Ensure security measures are in place to protect servers from compromise and ransomware attacks.
  • Monitor and alert on server hardware, software, and services.
  • Upgrade obsolete operating systems and regularly patch Linux/Unix systems.
  • Utilize monitoring portals and alert mechanisms for Linux systems.
  • Escalate critical and high-security alerts to IT teams and senior management.
  • Administer security vulnerabilities and ensure timely resolution.
  • Create and coordinate incidents, ensuring accurate record-keeping.
  • Produce weekly KPIs and contribute to monthly board reports.
  • Participate in enhancements and optimization projects in line with the Linux Server Roadmap.
  • Conduct annual internal and external penetration testing of Linux systems and remediation.
  • Manage third-party suppliers and Linux-related tickets raised on the IT Service Desk.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years' experience in IT Operations/DevOps.
  • Minimum 5 years of Linux Administration experience using command line.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix variants based on RedHat, such as Oracle Linux 9x and CentOS.
  • Experience with Linux Virtualization (KVM & Containers) and Microsoft Azure Hosting.
  • Operational knowledge of databases like MySQL, Influx, and Loki, including replication methodologies.
  • Configuration experience with services such as DNS, Apache, and NTP using text configuration files.
  • Expert knowledge of encryption methodologies including SSL, TLS, CSR, P12/PFX, and Cypher Suites.
  • Expert level technical knowledge of Linux subsystems including Networking, DNS, NTP, HTTP/HTTPS, SSH, SFTP, FTP, and Web Servers (Apache).
  • High level of technical knowledge of email subsystems such as Exim, Postfix, and sendmail.
  • Expertise in Linux scripting/programming languages including bsh, ksh, awk, perl, PHP, C, and Python.
  • Solid technical and analytical skills with the ability to interpret and present data clearly.
  • Good security skills for threat detection and protection solutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of XML, templates, and structures.
  • Knowledge of printing solutions down to printer language level for PCL and PDF.
  • Working knowledge of Unix variants such as IBM AIX, PowerVM, and HMC.
