About the position

The Linux Engineer role is a long-term contract position focused on providing expert engineering support for Linux systems. The engineers will be responsible for managing projects and business support requests, ensuring successful completion through collaboration with stakeholders and continuous process improvement. This position requires a strong background in Linux configuration, scripting, and system management, with a focus on delivering multiple solution approaches for various technical challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a Linux engineering subject matter expert on projects and business support requests.
  • Provide multiple solution approaches and perform the engineering required to implement selected options.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
  • Provide regular status updates to Store Systems Management.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and completion of customer satisfaction initiatives.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Linux configuration/engineering and scripting.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Bash/Python scripting.
  • Experience in configuring, installing, and administering Debian-based Ubuntu systems and RHEL.
  • Knowledge of hardware management firmware, OOB (iLO), and storage configuration (LVM).
  • Experience with KVM Hypervisor virtualization and Docker (EE & CE).
  • Ability to create containers and use Docker-compose (Kubernetes and Docker Swarm is a plus).
  • Experience in Linux benchmarking and performance testing.
  • Familiarity with SystemD and Linux services (NTP, DNS, Squid, NFS, iptables).
  • Experience with Linux middleware services such as Apache and MySQL.
  • Knowledge of filesystem setup and management.
  • Understanding of system security, including MSB, security scanning tools (e.g., Qualys), firewall, and PKI.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CI/CD using Jenkins pipeline and GIT.
  • Familiarity with Ansible.
  • Experience in Linux monitoring and alerting.
  • Knowledge of server capacity planning.
  • Experience implementing high availability (HA) environments.
  • Experience with other hypervisor hardware/software.
  • Experience in hybrid cloud platforms such as OpenShift and OpenStack.
