About the position

The Linux Systems Administrator at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health will support a High Performance Computing (HPC) environment, assisting end-users with technical issues and maintaining HPC systems. This role focuses on scientific computation, providing opportunities for learning and growth in a dynamic research setting.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and implements multi-platform operating systems, utilities, and related software to meet organizational needs.
  • Ensures the availability, integrity, and reliability of assigned systems.
  • Provides solutions to issues reported by RSPH's community of HPC users in a timely manner.
  • Administers HPC servers and services as a member of a team.
  • Manages physical hardware in the on-premise datacenter, requiring occasional on-site presence.
  • Learns and keeps current with HPC technologies, such as job-scheduling and parallel file system management.

Requirements

  • Five years of operating systems analysis/administration experience OR a bachelor's degree and three years of operating systems analysis/administration experience.
  • Extensive command-line systems administration/use.
  • User and group account administration experience, with LDAP experience being a plus.
  • Building (from source code), installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting application-level Linux and scientific software.
  • Installation of Linux and use of various Linux package management systems.
  • Intermediate shell programming ability required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, preferably with a scientific computing or Data Science emphasis.
  • 2 or more years of production, work-related or academic Linux systems experience.
  • Familiarity with containerization, such as Singularity.
  • Programming experience with applications such as R, Numpy/Pandas, and MATLAB.
  • Educational and/or research institution experience.
