About the position

The Linux System Administrator at Quantum Research International, Inc. will support the Compute Architecture Operation Center (CAOC) in Huntsville, AL. This role involves standard Linux system administration duties to ensure the smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including Linux-based application servers, virtual machines, and shared services. The position requires collaboration with network and storage administrators and focuses on maintaining system performance, documentation, and automation of deployment and maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform standard Linux System Administration duties to maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems.
  • Set up administrator and service accounts, maintain system documentation, and tune system performance.
  • Install system-wide software and allocate mass storage space.
  • Develop and monitor policies and standards for computing resource allocation.
  • Participate in the installation, integration, acceptance testing, and ongoing maintenance of systems and software environments.
  • Assist with forecasting resource limitations and provide recommendations for resource efficiency.
  • Support and develop automation to streamline and standardize deployment and maintenance tasks.
  • Build and maintain an automation framework using Ansible for system support, including customer onboarding/offboarding and user/account administration.
  • Develop knowledge to maintain and administer container-based solutions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience (additional experience may be substituted for the degree).
  • DoD 8570 certification - Security + and OS cert, Linux+, RedHat, etc. (90 day waiver may be provided to obtain the OS certification).
  • Willingness to occasionally work after hours and/or respond to emergency situations for problem resolution.
  • General knowledge of Linux and general Unix operating systems concepts as well as systems administration experience.
  • Ability to develop and maintain documentation on system administration procedures for routine and complex tasks.
  • Ability to create and maintain Information Assurance (IA) compliance documentation of the Information System.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with compiling, installing, and porting software.
  • Experience with storage devices and NFS storage protocol.
  • Familiarity with multi-factor authentication platforms and solutions, and Identity Management such as OpenID, LDAP, and Kerberos.
  • Security implementations using multi-factor authentication, PKI, or Kerberos and Unix OS hardening to DoD STIG standards.
  • Experience programming or troubleshooting Python code.
  • Experience with supporting Apache Web Server.
  • Experience with Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise Linux distros.
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite or Red Hat Identity Manager.
  • Experience with BIND DNS.
  • Experience with Ansible.
  • Experience with Gitlab.
