About the position

The Computing Systems Professional 2/3 position within the Infrastructure Service Division focuses on providing system administration support for Linux servers and desktop systems at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The role involves a variety of tasks including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers and workstations, as well as automating tasks and resolving customer support issues. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a team to support both classified and unclassified programmatic needs across the Laboratory.

Responsibilities

  • Support Linux/UNIX servers and desktop systems.
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, workstations, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment.
  • Implement and manage Linux solutions to support customer workstation requirements.
  • Support server/client virtual environments.
  • Resolve customer support issues and fulfill requests through remote and onsite support.
  • Automate tasks using programming and scripting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve network issues including file shares and authentication.
  • Communicate technical information to both technical and nontechnical personnel.

Requirements

  • Experience working with RHEL/Linux operating systems.
  • Experience scripting automated tasks.
  • Knowledge of enterprise configuration management tools.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills with workstations and servers.
  • Experience using a formal ticket management system.
  • Bachelor's Degree and 8 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with NIST guidelines and standards.
  • Proficiency with Ansible for configuration management.
  • Knowledge of various Linux distributions.
  • Experience working in Virtual Desktop Infrastructures (VDI).
