About the position

The Linux System Administrator III position at Cognizant is a critical role within the Cloud, Infrastructure, and Security Services Practice. This position is responsible for the implementation and technical configuration of systems infrastructure, ensuring the viability and integrity of the entire infrastructure. The role requires a qualified applicant to be local to Worcester, MA, or open to relocation, as it is an onsite position. The administrator will work under general supervision, providing customer service, service configuration, incident management, problem management, systems administration, and ongoing support. The position demands a high level of autonomy, allowing the administrator to deviate from design elements and processes as necessary. In this role, the Linux System Administrator III will be accountable for a set of infrastructure components and will perform system administration duties within the infrastructure department. The responsibilities include working with complex sets of infrastructure components, providing input on design elements, and participating in project implementation. The administrator will also be responsible for maintaining and updating operational documentation, performing account maintenance and system patching, and analyzing security threats to determine appropriate solutions. Additionally, the role involves responding to escalated support requests, conducting root cause analysis, and troubleshooting network and server issues. The position requires the administrator to maintain relationships with product vendors, provide timely notifications to customers, and ensure compliance with existing standards and policies. The Linux System Administrator III will also be involved in performance tuning activities and will conduct testing of infrastructure patches and updates prior to deployment. Overall, this role is essential for ensuring that the infrastructure operates smoothly and securely, supporting the organization's digital transformation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for a set of infrastructure components.
  • Performs system administration duties within the infrastructure department.

  • Responsible for creating root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Conducts testing of infrastructure patches and updates prior to deployment.
  • Troubleshoots network and server issues.
  • Develops estimates for own work and provides backup and restore services.
  • Maintains relationships with product vendors and provides timely notifications to customers.
  • Performs routine maintenance to ensure compliance with standards and policies.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience in systems administration required.
  • Extensive knowledge of business area and technology, considered a specialist in the field.
  • Demonstrates project management and systems analysis skills.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
