About the position

The Linux System Administrator, Junior at RMC is responsible for providing Linux-based workstation and server support in a research, development, test, and evaluation (RDT&E) environment. This role involves performing various IT infrastructure activities, managing IT inventory, and ensuring effective system administration for both virtual and physical networking configurations.

Responsibilities

• Provide Linux-based workstation and server support in an RDT&E environment.
• Perform IT infrastructure activities and manage IT inventory.
• Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues.
• Administer RedHat 7 or higher Enterprise systems, including workstations and servers.
• Utilize ACAS/Nessus or similar vulnerability scanners for system security.
• Support distributed file systems.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED with 0-3 years of relevant experience in system administration of LAN/WAN systems.
• DoD 8570/DoN 5239 IAT Level II certification (Security + CE) is required.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team providing tier 1 - tier 3 support.
• Strong understanding of virtual and physical networking configuration.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Bash and/or Perl scripting.
• Understanding of DISA STIG guidance and RMF requirements.
