About the position

Lockheed Martin, Rotary Mission Systems Cyber & Intelligence, is seeking a Level 3 Linux System Administrator (SA) to join our team in addressing some of the most pressing challenges in cybersecurity today. As a cyber security professional, you will play a crucial role in protecting vital networks that support our citizens and the global community. This includes safeguarding financial assets, healthcare information, critical infrastructure, and the continuous flow of energy that sustains modern life. In this dynamic and fast-paced environment, you will collaborate with cybersecurity experts to implement proactive measures against threats, ensuring the integrity and security of our systems. In this role, you will be responsible for the full lifecycle support of IT systems, which encompasses analysis, design, development, integration, testing, procurement, deployment, security, training, and sustainment for collection and antenna systems. Your daily activities will include managing the configuration and operation of IT systems, troubleshooting issues, and providing assistance to users. You will also be tasked with optimizing Linux system operations, performing capacity analysis, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our systems. The position requires a strong background in Linux system administration, including the ability to configure and manage Linux operating systems, troubleshoot network components, and implement enhancements to improve system performance. You will analyze and resolve complex problems associated with server hardware, applications, and software integration, while also providing detailed feedback to management regarding escalated tickets. This role is critical in maintaining the security and efficiency of our IT infrastructure, and you will be expected to work onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility, adhering to a flexible work schedule that includes a 9x80 format with every other Friday off.

Responsibilities

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Manage the daily activities of configuration and operation of IT systems.
  • Assist users in accessing and using IT systems.
  • Support day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for all client/server/storage/network devices, mobile devices, etc.
  • Communicate status updates to agency management and internal customers.
  • Optimize Linux system operations and resource utilization, performing system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Provide in-depth troubleshooting for IT systems.
  • Deliver detailed analysis and feedback to management for escalated tickets.
  • Support the dispatch system and hardware problem resolution process.
  • Configure and manage Linux operating systems, including installation and maintenance of operating system software.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain the integrity of network components, implementing enhancements for reliability and performance.
  • Support the design of systems, mission architecture, and associated hardware.
  • Analyze and resolve complex problems associated with server hardware, applications, and software integration.

Requirements

  • Fifteen (15) years of experience as a System Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university, or five (5) years of additional experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Strong Linux background and troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with Linux central authentication technologies.
  • Proficiency in navigating a terminal and running Linux commands.
  • Experience with SSHing to servers, port forwarding, and SSH tunneling.
  • Experience supporting systems in high latency, low bandwidth, air-gapped environments.
  • Familiarity with network devices such as firewalls, routers, and switches.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic experience with Kubernetes.
  • Basic experience using/troubleshooting Ansible playbooks/roles.
  • Basic understanding of system provisioning technologies.
  • Basic scripting experience (not language specific).
  • Basic experience administering/supporting Virtual Machine (VM) environments.
  • Fiercely independent and self-starter, capable of taking tasks and running them to completion.
