About the position

The Linux System Administrator position at Inferno Systems is designed for experienced professionals who will play a critical role in the design, build, and maintenance of Linux systems. This role requires a solid understanding of Linux administration, particularly with Rocky and Ubuntu operating systems, and involves troubleshooting, system monitoring, and executing upgrades and patches to ensure optimal system performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and test new systems to support ongoing operations.
  • Maintain, schedule, and execute software and hardware upgrades, patches, and reconfigurations.
  • Identify and troubleshoot software and hardware issues with workstations and servers.
  • Support continuous system monitoring using various tools.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator or network engineer.
  • Strong understanding of Linux operating systems, specifically Rocky and Ubuntu.
  • Experience with running and updating repositories.
  • Proficient in maintaining and updating centralized audit, logging, and backups.
  • Experience with cron, iptables, permissions, and SELinux.
  • Proficient in at least one scripting language such as Python, Perl, or Bash.
  • Solid understanding of Linux logging and network traffic analysis.
  • Experience setting up and monitoring OpenVPN and Wireguard tunnels.
  • Experience with NFS / CIFS.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently.
  • Strong customer service and technical writing skills, including documentation and diagram creation.
  • Experience using Jira for issue tracking and Confluence for documentation.
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible or Terraform.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience operating in a virtual environment such as VMware vSphere / ESXi or KVM.
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Experience monitoring network activity and network traffic redirection.
  • Familiarity with web proxies, common web servers (i.e., Apache, NGINX), SSL certificates, and DNS records.
  • Experience with installing, configuring, and maintaining physical server hardware.
